On August 2nd, 2017, the students of Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Castle Hills returned to AT&T Stadium to participate in the 2017 Kids ‘R’ Kids Summer Olympics. Children competed in a variety of fun and exciting games, from the javelin throw to the olympic ring toss. However, this fun-filled event wasn’t just about friendly competition - it was about coming together to raise awareness for the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

Scottish Rite Hospital is “one of the nation’s leading pediatric centers for the treatment of orthopedic conditions and sports injuries, as well as certain related neurological disorders and learning disorders, such as dyslexia” (https://community.tsrhc.org/KRKDonation). Patients at Scottish Rite receive treatment regardless of the family's ability to pay. This is why Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Castle Hills, along with the other 8 schools who participated, were thrilled to be able to help raise $12,446.59 for the many patients in need.

The games concluded with Kids ‘R’ Kids of Keller winning the trophy for the most funds raised, Kids ‘R’ Kids of East Allen winning the spirit award, and Kids ‘R’ Kids of West McKinney winning the ultimate prize for dominating the games. Regardless of who took home the trophy, the children of Castle Hills had an absolute blast competing in the games, all while making a difference in the lives of others.

Want to learn more about Kids 'R' Kids of Castle Hills located in Texas? Our mission is to provide secure, nurturing, and educational environments for children ages 6 weeks – 12 years. We help children to bloom into responsible, considerate, and contributing members of society. For more information, give us a call or stop by for a tour! The acquisition of language plays a major role in your child’s overall cognitive development. While most infants under the age of one are not able to speak yet, there are a number of effective techniques that you can employ in order to develop language skills in your baby. The infant care team at Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Castle Hills in Carrollton, Texas, explores a few of these techniques.

    Communicate with your infant

Most infants will begin producing a number of simple sounds by the time they are six months old. These can include gurgling sounds, giggling and some sounds that your infant hears and tries to imitate. Infant care professionals encourage you to repeat these sounds back to your infant but more clearly. Another way to communicate with your child is to simply narrate the day’s happenings to your infant.

    Reading

It is never too early to start reading to your infant. Head down to your local bookstore and find a couple of visually appealing cardboard books. Cardboard books are best for babies because they are durable. Read to your infant every day and, as he or she gets older, find more age appropriate books and help your baby follow along with the pictures. Reading will develop a love of books in your child as well as set the stage for successful language acquisition.

Link movements and actions to words and sentences

This is an outstanding technique for developing language in infants. You can narrate the action while carrying it out. For example, as you pick up a few of your baby’s toys, you can speak and show the action to your infant. By doing this, you will help your infant connect words to action, making the connection as you repeat this process. Repetition is key for language acquisition.

Shortly after the first year, your child will take the first few unaided steps into walking. Also at this time, your child should be able to utter a few clearly discernible words but not be quite able to string together a full sentence.

    Eighteen months to two years

Child-proofing your home becomes even more important during this period as your toddler will be completely mobile and getting into everything. Your toddler will start running, skipping and jumping by the age of two. Language development is also progressing with your toddler being able to construct and speak simple, understandable sentences.

    Three to five years

Your child will be climbing, swinging, jumping and running. He or she will also be able to hold a comprehensible conversation with other children or with another adult. You may also introduce him or her to self-dressing by the age of four, if your child has not already taken an interest in dressing.

A healthy, balanced diet is the cornerstone on which sound brain development is built. Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Castle Hills in Carrollton, Texas will take a closer look at some of the foods you should consider in order to facilitate healthy brain development for your child.

    Fish

Fatty fish is a great source of both vitamin D and omega-3s, which studies have proven protect the human brain from cognitive decline. There are a number of child-friendly food options including sardines, tuna, and salmon. These all require very little preparation and are ideal for school lunches. Parents should be advised to avoid fish species like king mackerel, tilefish, and most shark species because they contain high levels of mercury.

    Berries

Berries make a fantastic snack between meals for your preschooler or toddler. Blueberries and strawberries both contain high amounts of antioxidants which preliminary studies have shown to improve cognitive development. Further studies have shown that the antioxidants found in strawberries and blueberries have the ability to combat diseases and conditions such as Alzheimer’s and dementia.

    Beef

Millions of preschoolers, toddlers, and infants suffer from some sort of iron deficiency. A lack of iron leading to iron deficiencies can pave the ways for a sharp decline in cognitive development and ability. Adding healthy servings of beef to meals is one of the best ways to meet your child’s iron requirements as it is one of the best absorbed sources of iron.

The team at Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Castle Hills in Carrollton, Texas, encourages healthy eating in order to promote sound brain development. Contact us to find out more about our child care programs and facility.

Your child will hit many developmental milestones after he or she reaches preschool age, and one of the most important is self-dressing. We will take a closer look at what can happen when your preschooler starts self-dressing, and how you can deal with these issues.

    Mistakes will naturally occur

Your child will end up making mistakes when he or she starts to self-dress. The mistakes can range from mismatched clothes to simply putting a shirt or blouse on inside-out. Remain positive when your child makes a mistake while getting dressed. Instead of being negative about the fact that a particular garment is being worn incorrectly, praise your child for making the effort and gently explain how the particular piece of clothing should work.

    Exercise great understanding

You may find that your toddler will be changing outfits several times on any given day once he or she learns to dress. You may walk into your child’s bedroom to find outfits strewn across the floor. Understand that your child is learning, and a negative reaction from mom or dad could set this development back.

Your child may be overly eccentric when dressing

One thing that nearly all parents will come across when toddlers begin self-dressing is the use of overly eccentric outfits. Try not to criticize your child for choosing a particular outfit, but suggest a change when the situation makes it necessary.

The stages of your infant’s brain development will generally follow a straightforward and often predictable schedule. Your baby may reach some milestones earlier than other infants and reach others later. This is not something to worry about, as it usually means that the brain is prioritizing a particular set of skills. Here are some general guidelines of the stages of brain development in infants. Since each child develops individually, remember that these are only guidelines.

    Week 1 – 16

During the first four months of your infant’s brain development, he or she will begin to respond to various motor and sensory stimuli. This means that interesting lights, bright colors, and certain sounds will attract your infant’s attention. He or she will start to track the movements of objects and people in the range of vision, while not quite making the connection beyond this range.

    Week 16 – 24

Your infant will be able to recognize familiar faces such as family members and will respond by babbling or smiling when spoken to. Your baby will also begin to explore the world by swiping at or grabbing objects, often putting them in the mouth.

    Week 25 – 48

Your infant will now be more mobile and will be crawling, sitting, and even taking a few steps. In addition to new found physical abilities, your baby’s mental capacity is increasing, too. Your baby will begin to say his or her first words, will be able to repeat actions from memory, and will be able to find objects hidden from view.

To optimize the development of each child, a rich nurturing environment is required. An excellent, professional child care staff is necessary to provide the right support and loving attention, while encouraging a child to learn and prosper.

Your child’s infant and preschool years are a period in which experience is vital to laying the foundation of the brain circuits dedicated to motor control. The primary motor circuits that connect to the cerebellum, which controls posture and coordination, are formed during the first two years. During the important preschool phase of your child’s learning experience, it is critical for you to focus on maximizing his or her brain development. At home and in the classroom, the information and skills which he or she will learn during this time form the foundation for all future learning. Parents should carefully consider the type of preschool education that they want for their child.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Castle Hills, we understand preschool education and have experts who know how to teach and care for your child for the best results. Our AdvancED accredited preschool program and exclusive curriculum is designed to maximize your child’s development in a holistic, comprehensive manner. Since education starts in the family environment, it is important to understand why home education is as important as preschool education.

    The early years

From birth, your child’s brain development is exponential. All of the experiences that your infant is exposed to will act upon the brain and create links and associations. The important focus a parent should have at this stage is unconditional love and physical connection. Playing with, reading to and holding your child are all important for bonding. This bonding will form the basis for his or her self-esteem and emotional security. Your child will learn about adult interactions from you.

    Preschool

Preschool is the time in your child’s life for building the foundation for his or her future educational career. This includes not only basic skills such as numbers and letters, but also social, emotional and physical development. This stage, when developed properly, can make the transition to more formal schooling much easier and more successful.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Castle Hills, we know that preschool education is enhanced via playtime and having fun, which is why we make sure to incorporate fun into our curriculum. When it comes to teaching your child at home, you can also include fun in activities such as reading and counting. In the first year of your child’s life, rapid growth takes place as your child develops from a newborn into an adventurous toddler. Here is a helpful guide to what is happening to your child, mentally and physically:

    • The first four weeks: Known as the neonatal period, the first month of your child’s life is characterized by fragility and requires gentle treatment. Her brain will start to change from a mass of mostly unconnected brain cells as it begins building neural pathways in response to sensory stimulus. Your child will learn to pick out your voice but she will only be able see about forty inches away.
    • 2-3 months: These months are full of milestones, from developing the ability to hold her head steady while supported to rolling over from side to back. Your child will start to develop better control over her arms and legs, and to recognize familiar faces. She will also respond to gentle play.
    • 4-6 months: This is when she will learn how to roll from her back to her side and sit with support. Everything in reach will be grasped and put into her mouth, so careful supervision is necessary. Your child’s attention will be drawn to moving objects and she will focus on familiar people as they move around. Laughing and babbling will start as her language skills begin.
    • 7-9 months: Your child will likely be able to sit unaided at this stage and will start crawling around, eventually pulling up on furniture into a standing position. She will have developed a preference for specific toys and activities and may start mimicking the expressions of parents and caregivers, responding strongly to emotional gestures.
    • 10-12 months: At this stage, your child will start to want to feed herself at meals, picking up food between the thumb and forefinger. Movement will involve trying to walk, eventually resulting in her first steps. Language development usually reaches a milestone at this stage with her first word or two.

A great way to stimulate your child’s mental and physical development is to expose them to interesting new sensory experiences. Infant swimming classes at WaterKids not only give you and your child a fun bonding experience, they also teach your child an essential life skill.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Castle Hills, we have the leading Brain Waves Curriculum which is designed to provide the right amount of stimulation through sensory play and other activities. This curriculum optimizes mental and physical development in children from the ages of six weeks to five years.
